The Area

Flers is a quiet rural village in the pretty area of Northern France called the Seven Valleys and approximately 1.5 hours drive from the ports of Calais and Boulogne. With undulating fields and pretty towns and villages along the rivers, it is an unspoilt area to visit.

The nearby town of Hesdin has a number of restaurants and cafes and a weekly market which spills out from the town square into the surrounding street.

Sandy beaches and seafood restaurants can be found along the coast which is less than an hours drive away. St Valery sur Somme, Le Crotoy and Le Touquet are just three of the main coastal towns to wander through. Make a visit to Nausicca and the bustling town of Boulogne and explore the Old City or the inland walled Town of Montreuil with the ramparts to walk around, giving glorious views over the surounding area.

Paris, Lille, Amiens, Arras, St. Omer and Ypres are all within reach of a days visit.

The Somme World War I Memorials and cemeteries are about a fifty minute drive away. Vimy ridge and memorial is close to Arras, both with underground tunnels which can be visited. Take a tour of the medieval tunnels at Naours which have been used to hide armies over the centuries.

Why not catch your supper at the nearby trout farm at Conchy sur Canche or, for more serious fishing, rent a lake at Wail.

The list of 'places to visit and things to do' in the area are endless and both cottages have files giving more details. On the other hand, you could just sit back and relax in the garden, have a swim or take a stroll along the lanes surrounding Flers !
